A living boundary for a busy play space

This Hamilton playground needed more than colourful equipment. The surrounding landscape also needed to define the play area, soften the harder structures and create a finished setting from the start.

Rows of small Corokia plants would have taken years to grow together. Living Boundary™ instant hedges provided a continuous boundary from the day they were installed.

Supplied as fully formed, one-metre lengths, the Corokia ‘Frosted Chocolate’ hedges could follow the landscape design through both straight and curved sections. Their dense foliage gives structure to the different spaces while softening the edges between the play area, paths and surrounding park.

The foliage also changes with the seasons, moving from fresher green tones in summer to richer bronze and chocolate tones through the cooler months. That natural variation works comfortably alongside the playground’s bright colours and informal character.

The result is a living enclosure that feels established, complements the play environment and adds year-round structure while softening the harder elements of the landscape.
