This small space had a lot of potential. Moody was the brief, it needed to have contrast but with a dominating bold feel. Storage, functionality and wow factor was what the client wanted.

Despite being such a small space, we needed to get as much storage as possible. To achieve this I specified a Spacetower Pantry, as you gain 30% more storage out of drawers than you do out of shelves. Toe kick Drawers were included so that we could take advantage of the unused space below. Furthermore, Legrabox drawers were used as their full sides meant that they can be crammed full and nothing can pop out the side.

Functionality in a small space is vital in ensuring the kitchen works. With what minimal bench space there was, we made sure that there were adequate landing zones either side of the hob, and good lead-in and out around the sink.

A 1200mm walkthrough was non-negotiable. Making sure that more than one person can move around the space at any one time was achieved by allowing this 1200mm space. Black was the client's request in the colour department.

From experience I know that black cabinetry isn't the friendliest when it comes to marking and showing dust. Therefore, I informed the client on how adding a subtle grain to the board can hide so much. We ended up choosing Black Timberland Melamine, as the Woodgrain effect hid a lot of the fingerprints and markings I mentioned.

To contrast with the black, but not have a stark difference to it, we chose Concrete velvet to pair. These two colours, alongside the black handles, appliances and sink, produced a striking and intensely stunning small space.
