Island Bay House

Website

This cute turn of the Century Villa was in need of a makeover for its young owners.  Working alongside their builder we navigated the renovation process to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients, including changes to layout and room designations when the owners revealed they were expecting their first baby. This brought new challenges to accommodate previously unforeseen needs of a young family.

We decided on a neutral seaside palate for the wall colours and soft furnishings and used the restored timber floors to add warmth and heritage.  The entranceway arch was reinstated from the original plans and the tongue-in-groove panelling was added to create interest in the hallway while proving to be a highly practical barrier against the scrapes and knocks of family life.

After the interior was complete we were asked back again to provide the exterior colour scheme for this historic villa. We selected a warm cream tone for the weatherboards and contrasted this with soft white and smokey grey to highlight the architectural features.

From humble and dark beginnings this home now fits the needs of the family and another piece of Wellington heritage is saved and loved.
