Kopua Footbridge

Website

Bossley Architects worked with Aurecon Bridge Engineering to design this new footbridge linking the Raglan township with the camp ground and other facilities to the west of the river mouth, the existing 50 year old footbridge was seriously decayed and in need of replacement.

The team explored a variety of options, which had different urban design implications to the township, and after extensive public consultation a simple option was chosen. The new bridge was constructed just alongside the old, to enable the old bridge to operate during the construction of the new.

The new bridge allows ample boat traffic underneath due to its increased height, and fewer supports minimise disruption to the seafloor. The coloured balustrades give the bridge a unique visual language and reflect the tones of the surrounding natural landscape.
