PROJECT DESCRIPTION

From the outset, it was clear that our client’s vision for their new home, Lake Wendouree House, was one that had environmentally sustainable design principles – specifically Passive House (Passiv Haus) standards at it’s core. This was a tree change of sorts for this young family who after many years spent in Melbourne’s inner East, decided to return to their home town and with it a different philosophy on how they wanted to live and work. We worked in close collaboration with the client and certified Passive House builder to ensure the architectural vision and construction methodology where in sync with one another. An important feature of this project was how the house connected to the garden from every space. From the large south facing picture window catching vistas of Lake Wendouree beyond, the west facing side courtyard with built in bench seat for soaking up the sun, to the double height glazing facing north from the kitchen and dining room, framing views to the original pear tree – now featured in the rear yard.
