The Lonely stores in Newmarket, Auckland and Wellington exhibit refined minimalist design where every detail is executed to perfection. The contrast of hard and soft surfaces, modern and vintage is inspired by the Lonely brand values. The fit with Michael Anastassiades design philosophy of pairing everything back to the essential elements made his lighting range a beautiful complement to the interior design.

The dusky pink of the Newmarket store is inspired by owner Steve Ferguson's travels around the world - springtime in California, the muted colours of Tuscany and the sun-bleached architecture of the Middle East, and executed expertly by Rufus Knight.

Tip of the Tongue table lamp by Michael Anastassiades sits quietly on the counter, with its mouth-blown glass ball hovering on that perfect balance point on the edge of the base, thinking about spilling forward, but not quite. The very clever downlight, Find Me, add additional directional light. This fitting looks like a recessed downlight in its upper position, and an adjustable spotlight in its lower position.

In Wellington, the 100-square-metre space uses tactile materials in warm grey, earthy green and deep purple, contrasted with hard surfaces and metal furnishings, with a more intimate feel to suit the capital's cooler climate. The aged brass clothing racks echo the satin brass of the Tube Chandelier by Michael Anastassiades, which is hung centre stage.

Copper Bronze Shades by Tom Dixon peak above the sand-blasted marble wall in the fitting rooms.
