By RHJ Builders Ltd.
Collaboration was the key in creating this green specification home and studio on the Tutukaka Coast. RHJ Builders worked alongside the owners and Tennent Brown Architects to renovate an existing home constructed in the 1980s by the owner, and build a separate studio all using sustainable products. The home is constructed of non treated timber and products with a low carbon footprint. Our team worked with New Zealand South Island storm damaged red beech timber as the structural framing, cladding and the exterior joinery. Interior joinery is made of fast-regenerating bamboo plywood with an oil finish.
Locally sourced macrocarpa timber and Lawson cypress was used throughout other areas of the home and studio. The RHJ team worked with suppliers and sub trades to ensure sustainable products were sourced for roof coverings, breathable walls were constructed from wool insulation, magnesium oxide boards and natural finishes. A sustainable building project from the outset, the end result fit the brief from our eco-conscious clients.
