Blending McDonald’s design architecture with site-specific design elements gives this Whangaparoa fast food outlet a “contemporary coastal” look using modern lines and large areas of glazing. The architecture was softened by the use of natural materials including stone and timber weatherboards. Internal finishes are reflective of the external palette. Inclusion of an outdoor seating area enclosed within a timber pergola, has increased the depth, warmth and multi-layering of the building. Quality materials are used throughout that reflect the important aspects of the coastal design theme.
