By Gel Architects
Gel is proud to be working with Broadway Property Group on the first commercial development to be constructed in the Milldale neighbourhood centre. A fast-growing area of Auckland, Milldale is located 25 minutes north of Auckland opposite Millwater, west of State Highway 1.
The Milldale neighbourhood centre is an anchor commercial site bordering Waterloo Park. It will provide a range of amenities to this new community with a mix of commercial tenancies including ground floor hospitality and retail plus offices on the first floor.
Located at the southern end of Waterloo Reserve the site has an immediate interface of a pedestrian-focused streetscape designed by Woods overlooking the park with high-level amenities.
In our design response we first considered massing and scale. The building is taller on the reserve corner to address its prominent dual street frontage, enabling good sun exposure with appropriate visual awareness to the first-floor offices. Ground floor hospitality wraps around the corner providing sheltered outdoor dining overlooking the reserve. Smaller tenancies of a lower scale are located along Stream Road.
Trusted materials give a contemporary, industrial edge to this mixed-use development. Due to start construction in early 2023, it will offer a valuable gathering point within this growing community.
