Following the devastating Christchurch earthquakes, the historic fences of Nazareth House have since been paired with a landmark contemporary care facility that reincarnates the damaged site's rich heritage. Completed in 2016, the Nazareth House site now accommodates a neighborhood of 62 villas, 40 rest care beds, 40 hospital beds and a large community centre within the care facility which is flanked by a chapel and convent. One of IKON’s largest contributions to the Christchurch Rebuild and the aged care sector, the design for this sprawling project required the development of a consistent and considered architectural language. The contemporary style applied across the precinct’s many buildings is accented with traditional yet timeless elements, acknowledging the site’s historic soul while ushering it into a new era.

To us, architecture is not about the buildings we design. It’s about the people who inhabit the spaces within and around them. With that in mind, we’re not only accountable to our clients, but also to every person who sets foot inside one of our buildings. It’s a big responsibility which we take very seriously.
IKON is passionate about creating great spaces for working, learning, living and care. We pride ourselves on our meticulous approach which ensures not only the best outcome for each project but also the best process along the way.
Since founding in 1976, we’ve built a rich portfolio of projects across commercial, community, health, multi-use sporting and leisure. Our longevity is a testament to our client and a results-focused team that work towards the same goal: producing the best outcomes for you, your building and those who will use it.
