Commercial Architecture and Building Design - Dubbo NSW - 4 Hectares

To achieve a commercial design solution for the NSW Rural Fire Service, Cradle had to pinpoint their specific business needs. The process included fitting the various land options with the proposed development and improvements, then documenting a full development application for the chosen site. The building design required the expertise of structural and civil engineers, Barnson and building services engineers,  Evolved Engineering. Project managers Property Beyond were instrumental in driving the project strategy and direction of the commercial architecture, while David Payne Construction exclusively completed the new-build.

The NSW RFS aspired to create a NSW regional training academy facility, located at Dubbo. Adjacent to the airport, the purpose-built design required designated areas for training, conferences and accommodation. The facility would be predominately used by the NSW RFS, however it could be made available to other emergency services if needed. The training academy is one of the latest developments in the area, seeking to generate townships in country NSW.

The close proximity to Dubbo Regional airport played a role in the site selection, orientation of the main conference building and overall building heights. Council required the new facility to be secondary to the airport, however the building design still achieved a presence for the facility. Viewed from the airport terminal entry and exit point, it is within walking distance for attendees arriving by plane and visually prominent from the surrounding roads and highway.

Construction materials specified for the project had to be capable of tolerating extreme climate changes in the area. To guarantee thermal performance and reduce construction time, it was important that the commercial architecture, building size and site orientation support the use of Kingspan insulated building panels. The commercial interior design of the building consisted of carpet tiles and vinyl from Signature Floors, as well as acoustic ceiling tiles from Himmel TM Interior systems to control noise pollution from the neighbouring airport.
