Wright & Gray Architects are working with Homestead Construction on the development of the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS), Upper Hutt. Wright & Gray Architects designed the accommodation units that form the Athletes Village as well as the central Amenities building. The Amenities building adds a social hub for athletes to gather, eat, and socialise in a central space to complement the Athletes Village. The Athletes Village includes 50 self-contained accommodation units, complete with a bedroom, kitchen, living area, bathroom, and laundry. The units include 4 simulated altitude apartments. The interiors are designed to a high standard, as will be expected by the elite and professional teams who will stay and train at this world-class facility. The buildings have been designed to complement the original 1960s/70s ‘brutalist’ architecture, including some beautiful natural precast concrete work by Homestead.
