Ritchie Residence

Our task was to transform a previously renovated residence into a modern home reminiscent of the vibrant 1920s era. Commencing in the living area, we opted to enhance the timber bay windows by encapsulating the exquisite leadlight between two layers of glass for long-term protection. Introducing retro-inspired wallpaper, we reinstated all picture rails and concealed the new firebox that had been installed during the prior renovation. 

The hallway saw the revival of picture rails, Dado rail, and wainscoting, elegantly painted in a palette of black and white, with a striking black and silver wallpaper adorning the space above. The master bedroom was enriched with wainscoting and picture rails, while the spare rooms were embellished with textured wallpapers and picture rails. In the dining and sitting area, we installed picture rails, Dado rails, and wainscoting, complemented by a textured floral wallpaper beneath the picture rail. The kitchen underwent a redesign that included the addition of an island, a built-in fridge, and a display shelf.

One of the significant challenges encountered during this renovation was a consent issue at the rear of the dwelling from previous owners, which necessitated a thorough investigation and resolution. Ultimately, the only viable solution was to reconstruct the rear section of the dwelling to meet regulatory standards, leading to an unforeseen expense. Despite the challenges faced, the meticulous restoration work was met with enthusiasm by Anna, who was thrilled to return to her modernized yet faithfully restored 1920s home.
