About This Project
The partners of this new business enterprise briefed us with a detailed discussion as to why they were undertaking such a venture. It was to provide a home for knitters where they could not only buy fabulous yarn not available in Sydney, but more to provide a home inclusive of the knitting fraternity.
We loved their energy and mission statement so much that we just had to give them a physical space worthy of their venture.
The selected building is leased, but required extensive repairs and remodelling including fire rated ceilings, new wiring and new flooring.
Out of the leftover money, which wasn’t much, we had to design a fitout which didn’t talk down to the clientele with shabby chic lime washed interiors, but one that was far more robust and contemporary to embrace and acknowledge the sophistication of this community.
We used cheap materials, mainly plywood, and pine ply box units to enable the interior fitout to not only be hardwearing and cool, but we also came 10% under our very tight budget.
Our input was to design the layout, all joinery, bespoke tables, restoration items, lighting design, colours and finishes (internally and externally), mechanical ventilation, bathroom and kitchens as well as exterior signage locations.
We work with you to design the places where you live, work and play.
We listen to your ideas, visions and dreams and work with you to achieve them.
The process of dealing with councils can be daunting. We have over twenty years of experience running a design practice in Sydney and have in that time dealt with most Councils and experience a wide range of project types and challenges.
Our clients come to us looking for solutions to projects in residential, commercial and industrial categories. Heritage is a large part of working in the more established areas of Sydney.
Our projects have been featured in media including print and television, including Grand Designs Australia and work with Selling in the City.
Our name reflects that the process and production of our built environment brings with it a responsibility to be an agent of positive change. Benefits should be felt and experienced not only by our clients, but also for all others impacted by it. This is especially true in regards to our use of resources during construction, and the long term consumption of resources.
