'Dear Ecodure, we are renovating a big old 2 level villa in Parnell and need a floor with classic elegance that will work as well with the old as it does with the new spaces. I have a few requirements, how detailed can you get...'
Product Used: SomaOak | Engineered Oak Flooring, NZ (Earthen Grey Herringbone)
Almost quadrupling in size, this late 1800s workers cottage got the full renovation & extension treatment. Saving the old kauri floors is always a consideration with these heritage projects but inevitably the feel of a brand new structurally engineered timber floor often feels substantially better than refurbished 150-year-old kauri T&G.
By direct sticking SomaOak herringbone planks to the existing kauri (which was already in fairly good order), the home now has a seamless connection between the centuries and the cottage gains a new feel of solidity, ready for the next hundred years.
Custom stairnoses made from longer lengths of matching flooring clad the new stairwell and custom balustrade trims ensure a very considered approach to the finishing.
