It took just 15 minutes inside this extraordinary Coolum Beach residence in February 2022 to recognise both its architectural significance and its potential for transformation.

Affectionately known locally as the “James Bond House”, the sculptural home was originally designed by acclaimed architect Frank Macchia more than 20 years ago. Its distinctive curved fins, dramatic façade and elevated position give the residence an unmistakable presence, while expansive ocean-facing terraces capture uninterrupted 180-degree views across the coastline and hinterland.

The renovation was conceived as a respectful reinvention rather than a departure from the original architecture. The interiors were reimagined with a strong emphasis on bold sophistication, layered texture and luxurious liveability, combining global design influences with carefully curated materials, furniture and lighting.

Key elements include French oak flooring, hand-selected international wallpapers and textiles, sculptural Italian lighting, custom-curated furniture, automated blinds and motorised curtains designed to frame the dramatic outlook.

A private swimming pool and self-contained studio apartment further enhance the home’s sense of retreat and flexibility.

The result is a highly individual residence that honours the strength of the original architecture while creating a more refined, expressive and deeply comfortable contemporary home.

Professional Reviews

1 / 3

“After 29 years in the same house when we moved, we decided to leave all of our old furniture and have a fresh start. Danielle was involved from the outset and after purchasing the new house she came up with the colour palette for paints and carpets. From there she provided at least two furniture, artwork, accessories, window treatments and soft furnishing options for each of the rooms for us to review. Once we had decided on the design, Danielle ordered everything and coordinated the deliveries and installation to suit our time frame. She custom made cabinetry and furniture as well. The whole process was painless and stress-free as well as exciting at the same time and the end result exceeded our exceptions. Three years on and we still find it hard to believe that this is our house. We would have no hesitation in recommending Danielle to any new potential clients as she has impeccable taste is highly organised and a joy to work with”
