Thornbury Residence

A naturalistic garden inspired by eco friendly garden design incorporating nature play for children with recycled timber stepping logs, stepping stones and rock boulders. The use of natural materials found in nature act as feature elements in the garden whilst providing sensory and physical play.

Native Australian flora provide attractive landscaping and habitat opportunities. Strategically planted drifts of colourful indigenous plant species create sheltered areas for local fauna. Incorporating biodiverse native plantings into the landscape nurtures connections to the local environment while beautifying exterior spaces.

Feature stone boulders amongst the Australian native plants adds depth and dimension to the garden capturing the attention of visitors to the beauty of the landscape. Pathways inset with bluestone steppers are located amongst the native tussocks and wildflower creating an enticing and immersive experience amongst different colours, textures and smells of the garden. A large set of bluestone steps set within a gravel path leads to the front of the home. The steps are framed by surrounding landscaping which includes various native plant species such as mat rushes, yellow buttons, fan flowers, and kangaroo paws positioned amongst naturally placed rock boulders.

A sustainable approach was utilised by establishing a low-maintenance garden featuring environmentally-preferable alternatives, including the installation of a permeable gravel driveway to reduce stormwater runoff. The garden is provided with a selection of all season flowering plants/texture foliage providing an abundance of flower colour attracting fauna and creating visual interest.
