Tūranga, Christchurch's innovative five-storey library, features a seamless interior ceiling panel finish that transitions from exterior soffits, showcasing resilience and rebirth through the custom SuaveCrete finish, designed for durability and aesthetic harmony.
Christchurch’s new five-storey central library, Tūranga, sits in the city’s historic Cathedral Square as a celebration of diversity, innovation, learning and, most importantly, resilience and rebirth.
For Ambitec, the brief centred around the need for an interior ceiling panel finish that would create a seamless transition from the exterior soffits through the large, frameless windows into the interior. This required the development of a new finish that would match the library’s ground floor exterior concrete soffits.
In response SuaveCrete was created, a new finish with a Suave base and a mix of additives and aggregates to formulate a coloured, textured finish that was durable, and mimicked acid washed concrete.
