Set just below the crest of a rural hillside, this home commands spectacular views towards the Remarkables, Kingston and Coronet Peak. The build is arranged in two robust shed forms, drawing from the region’s traditional sheep sheds in scale, proportion and durability.
One shed houses the main living areas, primary bedroom, and an outdoor room that is viewed through a glazed wall upon entry. The second contains family and guest accommodation, a secondary living space, and garaging. The entry sits between the two sheds. An outdoor pool completes the design.
A key construction feature is the stone-clad central fireplace, which anchors the living shed structurally and visually. It supports a radiating hardwood timber roof structure and integrates a dual fireplace serving both the interior living space and the outdoor room.
As with form, materials reflect the Central Otago rural setting and are suited to the alpine environment: ironbark beams, Abodo timber, schist and pre-weathered metal cladding feature.
Deliberately modest in appearance, the build demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship, precise detailing and careful coordination, resulting in a sophisticated rural home built to perform and endure.
