The Wanaka Townhouses were intended to be an investment within a new subdivision with the units being long term rented or sold, however given the location and design flexibility the owners decided to stay.

The location of site made for a challenging design, it was located on a busy stretch of road in a new, relatively densified subdivision. Not only this but it was bordering on a reserve with a busy walking track. Privacy was of the utmost importance.

The design approach was to utilise the location and views of the lake and  reserve boundary but maintain privacy. We wanted to create a modern, local aesthetic that only added to the beauty of the landscape.The materials used were traditional cedar & colorsteel but used in a modern application. These materials gave a feeling of ‘home’ creating a welcoming feeling whilst keeping in tune with the local vernacular.   

Both townhouses provide views of the lake and great access to the sun - making for the perfect day on the deck or night on the cocktail balcony.
