PROJECT SCOPE

Re-design and renovation of an original 1960’s kitchen, to create a functional space for the professional chef client to cook up a storm, and for the young family to happily congregate and create memories in.

YEAR - 2019

A simple request from a busy couple with a young family; to transform a dark, dingy kitchen into something light, bright and practical, with a little bit of ‘Wow’…

An original dark, dimly lit, 1960’s galley style kitchen was transformed through the carefully considered use of colour, materials and layout to create a fresh, contemporary, family space that works equally well for the professional chef client, and the needs of a young, growing family.

Quality materials and finishes were selected, including oak herringbone engineered flooring, custom oak veneer cabinetry, marble benchtops with brass tapware and handles that can age gracefully over time.

A Billie Culy artwork over the adjoining breakfast table and inbuilt bench seating injects life and personality to a space that is now a glorious spot to spend time in.

We are Kurio; the Wellington based Interior Design Studio of industry-qualified co-owners, Katie Peck And Nikki Burnet. We specialise in both residential and commercial interior projects, with a portfolio of work from across New Zealand.

Guided by the individuality of each client; we create interiors that are a joy to live in. Our design style is considered and curated, based on quality and timelessness, and finished with a twist of the unexpected.

From large-scale renovation and turn-key interior projects through to decorative styling, we will expertly reflect your personal taste, and piece by piece curate an interior that is a representation of your personality, your lifestyle, and one you truly feel connected to.

With nearly 30 years of combined design experience from across New Zealand, Australia, UK and Europe, we have established our personal ethos and foundations in design.

Our years working in world-leading design studios, putting our touch on luxury residential homes, developments and hotels, has given us sound skills and knowledge, ready to continue creating homes of quality and integrity for our NZ clients.

Our name Kurio, is a play on the words curio (a rare, unusual, or intriguing object) and curated (discovering, collecting, organising beautiful things) with the K as our signature unexpected twist. Kurio is a reflection of our design ethos; Spaces designed to Live Distinctively.

As interior designers we understand that a well-executed, intentional design has a huge influence in creating a haven; a place of happiness, comfort and connection.

Our aim is to craft thoughtful and beautiful interior spaces that are a manifestation of our client’s personality, lifestyle and practical needs. We want to provide you with the most professional service and the benefits of our collective creativity and design knowledge, to create something beautifully unique, together.
