One finish in particular has captivated both designers and homeowners, quickly becoming a popular choice in modern kitchens and bathrooms: gunmetal. This finish strikes a fine balance between industrial chic and understated elegance, making it a standout option that’s bound to elevate your chosen space. “Gunmetal is a great option to deliver a statement finish to a bathroom or kitchen,” explains Jeanette Aston, Head of Marketing of Greens Tapware.
Bringing a statement such as gunmetal into your space can be daunting, and sometimes figuring out the perfect way to style can prove difficult. Gunmetal is beloved for being a softer alternative to the ever-popular matte black, bringing that chic, industrial feel to a space without being as polarising. “Gunmetal has a warmth and depth that will work well in more traditional bathrooms or kitchens, allowing you to venture away from the basic Chrome finish. Gunmetal adapts to its environment and can be softened by accessories or promoted with the use of other metals. It’s a very versatile finish.”
Styling your industrial moment against raw materials creates a striking effect. Jeanette advises, “Gunmetal carries warmth in its depth of colour—when paired with wood, it can soften, or when aligned with other materials, it can give that raw rustic feel. Depending on the base colour of the wood, gunmetal can create warmer tones, or paired with stainless steel, it creates cooler, more commercial finishes. With marble, it can pick up and highlight the grey tones in the veins, so no matter the path, it's very adaptable and complementary to its partnered textures.”
Gunmetal tapware is known for its durability, but as with anything, maintenance through regular cleaning is key to keeping your hardware looking fresh and clean. “For cleaning all of our tapware, we recommend cleaning only with a soft, damp cloth and warm water,” says Jeanette. “Avoid using cleaning agents such as vinegar or those containing corrosive acid or scouring agents, as they can damage the surface.”
Keep an eye out for Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technology, often used in high-quality Gunmetal hardware. “This advanced finish is highly resistant to scratches, tarnishing, and corrosion, ensuring that your tapware maintains its stylish appearance and performs effectively over time.” PVD is also a great choice when it comes to eco-friendly considerations in your household, made with fewer chemicals and generating less waste than traditional plating methods.
With a perfect blend of style, versatility, and lasting durability, gunmetal tapware has quickly become a go-to for kitchens and bathrooms, making an impact that’s both elegant and enduring.
