Proud Achievements

We are most proud of how we revitalized the charm of this heritage home while seamlessly integrating modern technology. By ingeniously incorporating classic features such as the vintage doorbell and traditional pull cords, we created a high-tech setup that not only maintains nostalgia but also enhances functionality. These elements now control lighting in specific rooms and activate chime speakers when the doorbell rings. This project represents a perfect fusion of timeless elegance and cutting-edge convenience, allowing the home to run itself with dynamic scenes, schedules, and custom programming.

Challenges Faced

The most challenging aspect was ensuring that every element of the home operated flawlessly while adhering to strict heritage criteria and regulations. We had to bridge the old with the new, integrating the original structure with modern technology. Our comprehensive system now monitors all 15 access points—doors, gates, driveways, basement entries, and fire exits. Each family member has a unique access code, allowing for tailored functions and detailed notifications about who accessed which door and at what time. This sophisticated integration provides both historical preservation and advanced security with exceptional precision.

Client Feedback

The owners expressed their satisfaction, stating, "With Control4, we can manage and oversee our home in ways we never imagined possible." This sentiment captures the transformative impact of the system on their daily lives.

Automation Platform Selection

With over 15 years of experience on my part and over 20 years from Patrick, we explored various automation platforms before concluding that Control4 was the most suitable solution. Our extensive familiarity with this product allows us to deliver exceptional results tailored to our customers' unique needs.

Integrated Sub-Systems

We installed several sub-systems to enhance the home’s functionality:

  • Inception Alarm System: Offers comprehensive monitoring and notification for access control, as well as arming and disarming functions.
  • Coolmaster: Integrates HVAC systems, ensuring optimal air quality in basement areas and effectively reducing moisture levels.
  • Hikvision Integration: Seamlessly imports camera feeds to touch screens for instantaneous viewing.

Complex Automation Events

One of the most complex automation events we implemented was the automatic disarming feature. This system opens blinds, activates specific lights, circulates fresh air through the HVAC in designated rooms, and initiates a playlist in common areas. This automation enhances convenience and creates a welcoming atmosphere without requiring user interaction.

Network Design Planning and Execution

For the network design, we conducted a heatmap analysis to ensure reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout the home. We selected Pakedge products, including the RK1, 24-port PoE switch, and a managed switch for video over IP (MOIP) distribution. The design includes five VLANs and LAGs to manage network traffic effectively.

Lighting Solutions

The lighting design was specified by a professional lighting designer, allowing us to modify choices like RGB LEDs over the bowling alley. This feature enables us to rotate colors in a specific sequence, enhancing the overall ambiance of the space.

Visual Display Devices

All TVs in the project were Samsung, supplied by the client. We utilized a Screen Technics 150-inch 2.35:1 screen with masking and upgraded the projector from a Sony 590 to a 790ES for superior image quality.

Video and Media Distribution

We implemented Binary MOIP for video distribution, allowing us to deliver the highest resolution possible to each receiving display, ensuring a seamless viewing experience throughout the home.

Audio Products

All speakers installed are Triad IC83, covering 13 zones, including surround sound in main living areas and multi-channel stereo in the bowling alley and gym. Rock speakers are strategically placed in outdoor areas, powered by Triad 8-zone amps and an audio matrix. The theater room features Triad in-wall Silver Fronts and IC83s for rears, along with 6 channels of Atmos, powered by an Anthem MRX 1140 and an MCA 325 amplifier.

Power Management

For power management, we implemented a 3kVA UPS and two Pakedge PE08i units for battery backup, ensuring system reliability and protection.

Infrastructure Considerations

We ensured all necessary cabling provisions were made, with each TV receiving six Cat6 cables for future expansion or as backups in case of construction-related damage.

HVAC Control

Using Coolmaster, we integrated over 20 VRV units throughout the home, allowing for full control and the implementation of fresh air schedules.

Remote Monitoring with OvrC

We utilized OvrC to enable remote monitoring, updates, and health checks of the home technology. The client appreciated this capability, especially for changing Wi-Fi passwords regularly to ensure security.

Service Contract

A service contract is set to begin in December 2024, offering tiered support with various inclusions tailored to project size.

Enhancing Family Lifestyle

This home is a forever home for a young family of seven, including five kids. Control4 has significantly enhanced their lifestyle, allowing them to monitor and maintain access control while creating a perfect entertainment environment. With features like the bowling alley, theater, tennis court, and pool area, all integrated with the rest of the home, it provides an ultimate entertainment experience across 2,000 square meters of functional space.
