Molteni&C finds a flagship setting on Auckland’s design strip

The arrival of Molteni&C’s first dedicated New Zealand flagship marks a notable shift in Auckland’s design landscape. Rather than presenting furniture as a series of individual pieces, the new 450-square-metre gallery in Parnell has been conceived as a complete interior environment.

Opened in partnership with Dawson & Co, the space reflects Molteni&C’s broader philosophy of contemporary living, where architecture, furniture and materiality are considered together. Guided by Creative Director Vincent Van Duysen, the showroom unfolds through interconnected living, dining, kitchen, bedroom and wardrobe settings that feel more like a home than a conventional retail floor.

That distinction is significant. As residential interiors become more layered and cohesive, designers and homeowners are increasingly looking beyond standalone objects towards complete systems of space, material and use. Throughout the gallery, custom travertine tiles, timber, stone and textured fabrics create continuity between rooms, allowing each piece to be understood in relation to proportion, light and circulation.

For New Zealand architects and interior designers, the value lies in being able to experience Molteni&C’s design language at full scale. Material junctions, spatial relationships and the balance between furniture and architecture can be difficult to assess through samples or imagery alone. Here, they are presented as part of a lived-in sequence, making the showroom as much a specification resource as a retail destination.

The flagship therefore represents more than a new address. It reflects a growing appetite for design environments that support slower, more informed decision-making and allow complete interiors to be understood before they are specified.
