Pair Tall Pots with Contrasting Textures

Creating visual interest is all about balance. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is by pairing tall pots with different textures. For example, combine the smooth and sleek 90 Degrees Tall pot with the 90 Degrees Tall Ribbed pot design for subtle contrast.

This combination works beautifully in spaces that need height and structure, like entryways, poolside corners, or open office layouts. The contrasting textures add depth while keeping the overall look clean and cohesive.

Mix Wide, Short Pots with Sleek, Tall Pots

Contrast is a key design principle, and it’s not limited to texture alone. By pairing wide, short pots with tall, sleek ones, you introduce a beautiful contrast in both shape and proportion. This mix creates visual interest and balance, drawing the eye in multiple directions, which helps keep the pot arrangement dynamic and engaging.

For example, the 90 Degrees Pot range, available in a range of sizes, demonstrates how various heights and shapes can add depth to any space. The sleek, vertical design of the tall pots contrasts beautifully with the broader, more squat pots, making the overall display feel both grounded and expansive.

This mix of shapes works well in a variety of settings, from the cozy corners of living rooms to the sleek, professional spaces of office lobbies, or even out on your patio. In each of these environments, the pairing of short and tall pots adds layers of depth, creating an arrangement that feels full without being overcrowded.

Arranging Pots for Maximum Impact

To maximize the effect, position the taller pots behind or to the side of the shorter ones. This layering technique creates a sense of dimension, giving your plant displays both height and depth. The wider pots in front serve as a natural grounding element, while the taller pots draw the eye upward and add a sense of verticality to the arrangement.

Keep the Palette Cohesive

For a harmonious look, it’s best to stick to similar tones across the pots. This simplicity lets the contrast in shapes shine without overwhelming the visual balance, allowing the plants to shine.

Same Height, Different Shapes

For a subtle yet striking look, pair pots of the same size and colour but in varying shapes. This approach brings a sense of cohesion while still keeping things visually interesting.

For example, combine a cylindrical pot with a square or tapered design in the same neutral tone. This mix works perfectly as a large-scale centerpiece, creating a powerful statement without overwhelming the space.

The uniform colour ties everything together, while the contrasting shapes add depth and character—perfect for both modern interiors and outdoor settings.

Alternatively, for a seamless, curated look, you can take the guesswork out of pairing pots with our curated cluster collections. Designed by the Hibernate and Secret Gardens teams, these ready-to-shop combinations come in Salt, Stone, Clay and Slate, making it easy to elevate your space with minimal effort.
