Material Brief: COLORSTEEL®

Where does COLORSTEEL® come from?

COLORSTEEL® is proudly made right here in New Zealand by New Zealand Steel.

Because it's developed and tested for local conditions, it's designed to perform in everything from harsh coastal environments to alpine winters and intense summer sun.

That local knowledge, combined with decades of manufacturing expertise, helps ensure COLORSTEEL® delivers the protection and reliability Kiwi homeowners expect from their homes – and is why it’s still New Zealand’s favourite roof.

How do you identify quality?

Not all pre-painted steel is created equal. Quality is about more than how a product looks on day one.

It's about choosing a material that continues to look great and perform beautifully for years to come.

When comparing products, consider where it's made, how it's tested, the warranty offered and whether it's designed for your environment.

Genuine COLORSTEEL® combines patented advanced corrosion-resistant technology, rigorous testing and warranties of up to 50 years, giving you the confidence that your roof and cladding will stand the test of time.

What should you know before you specify?

The roof and cladding play a huge role in shaping the overall feel of a home. Think about the style of architecture you're creating, the colours of surrounding materials and how the home sits within its environment.

A deep, dramatic colour can create a striking architectural statement, while softer tones can help a home feel calm and connected to its landscape.

The right COLORSTEEL® choice balances performance with the design vision you want to achieve.

Lastly don’t forget to ensure you are getting genuine COLORSTEEL®, it’s worth getting this in writing for peace of mind.

How does COLORSTEEL® age?

A well-designed home should look stunning not just when it's finished, but for years to come.

COLORSTEEL® is designed to weather New Zealand's conditions beautifully over time.

As with any exterior surface, exposure to sun, wind and rain can gradually affect appearance, but its protective coatings are engineered to maintain durability and colour performance.

With simple maintenance, homeowners can continue enjoying a home that looks as good as it feels, and in fact in many locations, natural rain washing does most of the work.

Where does COLORSTEEL® work best?

One of the reasons Kiwis love COLORSTEEL® is its versatility.

It can complement everything from coastal retreats and rural homes to contemporary architectural builds and classic family homes.

Whether used on the roof, walls or architectural features, it offers the flexibility to create a cohesive exterior or a bold architectural statement.

Whatever your style, there's a COLORSTEEL® solution to help bring your vision to life.
