The Rise of Electric Connected Heating in Australia with a real flame and real heat: What Builders, Architects, and Homeowners Need to Know

In the rapidly evolving world of residential and commercial design, electric connected heating solutions are emerging as the smart, sustainable, and future-proof choice for Australian homes. With increasing demand for energy efficiency, automation, and clean design aesthetics, the shift from traditional gas or wood heating to fully electric connected fireplaces and heating systems has accelerated across the country.

Why Electric Connected Heating is Booming in Australia

1.     Sustainability and Compliance

With local councils and state governments tightening energy efficiency and emissions standards, electric heating products align perfectly with current and future regulatory requirements. Electric fireplaces, for example, produce zero direct emissions, making them ideal for net-zero and green-certified builds.

2.     Smart Home Integration

Modern electric heaters and fireplaces can be seamlessly integrated into smart home systems, offering control via mobile apps, voice assistants like Alexa and Google Home, and centralised automation platforms. This is increasingly expected in premium developments.

3.     Installation Flexibility

Unlike gas or flue-dependent systems, electric heating solutions offer superior flexibility. They require no ventilation, making them perfect for apartments, heritage builds, and compact inner-city homes. This flexibility also reduces labour and material costs during construction.

4.     Design Versatility

From wall-mounted panels and in-built linear fireplaces to suspended or mantelpiece-style statement heaters, electric connected products are available in a wide range of finishes to match any architectural style. This empowers architects and interior designers to integrate heating into the visual identity of a space.

Top Categories Driving Demand

·       Electric Connected Fireplaces: Stylish, flue-less and app-controlled, these are taking over from traditional wood and gas options in luxury and mid-tier homes.

·       Smart Radiant Panels: Wall-mounted heating with zoned control and minimal visual impact.

·       Underfloor Electric Heating: Ideal for bathrooms and tiled areas, with timer and temperature control via app.

Market Growth and Future Outlook

According to recent industry insights, the market for electric heating solutions in Australia has seen double-digit year-on-year growth since 2021. As energy prices fluctuate and sustainability takes centre stage, builders and developers are prioritising electric heating systems not just as an alternative, but as the new standard.

Brands like Decoflame, NetZero Fireplaces, and Stiebel Eltron are leading the innovation curve, offering electric heating products that are both architecturally stunning and technologically advanced.

What This Means for Builders, Designers, and Homeowners

·       Builders can streamline installs, reduce compliance headaches, and offer premium packages with low long-term maintenance.

·       Architects can specify bold or minimal heating features without design compromise.

·       Homeowners get safe, efficient, and user-friendly heating that aligns with their lifestyle and environmental values.

Final Word

As Australia moves toward more sustainable living, electric connected heating solutions are not just a trend—they're a construction essential. Builders, architects, and designers who embrace this shift early will lead the future of Australian home design.
