Aluminium Retrofit Double Glazing

Modernise your aluminium joinery outside and enhance your quality of life inside. Choose Aluminium Retrofit Double Glazing and maximise home comfort by upgrading your existing aluminium windows and doors to accommodate genuine SuperTherm™ Low-E double glazing.

Our retroGLAZE® Aluminium Retrofit Double Glazing solution is the right choice for upgrading existing aluminium windows and doors.  The process involves removing the existing inefficient single glass and upgrading it to genuine high-performing double glazing.   Genuine double glazing includes two pieces of glass with a space between them, therefore a new profile is fitted to your existing frames to increase the amount of space available for the double glazing to sit.

Once installed, the changes are almost unnoticeable, leaving you with windows and doors that look like new joinery and provide you with a warmer and drier home.

Aluminium Retrofit Double Glazing - What Changes?
Our retroGLAZE® Aluminium Retrofit Double Glazing solution is the right choice for upgrading existing aluminium windows and doors.  The process involves removing the existing poor-performing 3mm-4mm single glass and upgrading it to genuine high-performing double glazing.

Glass:
Existing glass (usually poor performing 3mm – 4mm single pane glass) is removed, to be replaced with traditional float or high-performing Low-E double glazing.

The glass in your double glazing is selected to achieve the requirements for you and your home.  Consider the glass options available to create a warmer, drier and quieter home. Choose from the SuperTherm™ Low E double glazing range for superior home comfort.

Aluminium Profiles:
The old, existing aluminium single-glazing profiles are removed (these can be identified by angled beads/ aluminium sections at an angle), and replaced with new double glazing profiles that finish flush on the outside. This gives your home a more modern appearance. The new flush aluminium profile increases the space available so that genuine double glazing can now fit in your existing aluminium frames.

Hardware & Seals:
The old aluminium window stays are replaced with new stays designed to function effectively with the weight of your new double glazing.  Rubber gasket seals are replaced as a part of the process, ensuring that your opening windows seal effectively.

You can choose to enhance the look of your windows with new colour-matched hardware (e.g. window catches, door handles and security stays) to provide improved security and modern joinery aesthetics.

Layout:
Take the opportunity to change the layout of your windows by removing bulky vision rails to improve your view. Discuss options available to change fixed windows to opening windows (or vice versa) to optimise airflow in your home and improve passive ventilation.

FAQs

Can all aluminium window frames be retrofitted with double glazing?
For the most part, aluminium windows and door frames can be retrofitted.
Some joinery from the 60s and 70s may prove to be too flimsy, and some joinery may not have enough space or structural strength to hold the additional weight of genuine double-glazing units.  Read more here...

Should I retrofit or replace my windows?
Deciding whether to retrofit or replace your windows and doors can feel confusing, or even overwhelming.
Aluminium Retrofit Double Glazing uses your existing aluminium frames, replacing the old single glazing with new double glazing. In contrast, Replacement Windows & Doors involve removing both the existing glass and frames of your aluminium or timber joinery, and replacing them with new thermally enhanced joinery.
