• A semi-pedestal basin is essentially wall-mounted but still features a small pedestal sink to conceal pipework. However, using this type of pedestal sink requires a sturdy wall, capable of supporting all the weight. 

Wall Hung Basins

A wall-hung basin is space-savvy and, therefore an excellent option for tiny bathrooms. The wall-mounted design releases floor space, allowing installation at any height. Unless hidden inside a cabinet, the plumbing remains exposed, offering a chance for a range of creative solutions such as copper and bronze finishes. Wall-mounted sinks are available in both modern and traditional styles, as well as a range of sizes.

Counter Top Basins

Countertop basins are a modern choice for adding a chic, clean-lined style to the bathroom. They are available in various shapes and styles, from simple round models to more innovative materials and elaborate forms. Tabletop wash basins can have one, two or no tap holes.

Recessed Bathroom Basins

Contrary to the typical countertop basins that sit on the surface, the recessed basin mounts inside the solid work surface, leaving little or no mass protruding above the countertop. There are three basic types of sunken basins, differing only in mounting systems. Recessed bathroom sinks may include tap mounting points or extra features such as soap holders. While typically made of stainless steel or porcelain, it's also possible to find high-impact plastic or resin composite models. 

• Self-rimming or drop-in semi-recessed basins feature a rim lying on top of the counter. The role of the rim is to provide additional support to the sink. 

• Under-mount recessed basins feature large flanges adhered to the underside of the counter. Alternatively, it may come with clips and brackets designed to be secured with screws. This type is easy to maintain since the absence of catch points on the surface eliminates the chance of dirt and water residues piling up. 

• The flush-mounted recessed basin is similar to the under-mount style, except that it includes the edge. These models are often found in combination with tiled or granite tops, with the join grouted or sealed.

Stone Basins

Stone basins are unique and attractive, ready to make a striking statement in any bathroom. Apart from durability and longevity, the best aspect of a stone basin is the sturdy construction made of natural material. Stone is a beautiful material to use also in bathtubs.

Vanity Unit Basins

Vanity unit basins provide additional storage, especially handy in tiny bathrooms. A combination of a small sink and a cabinet is available in many sizes and styles, as well as both wall-mounted and floor-standing designs.

More things to consider

Before buying a bathroom sink, it's important to think of all the ways it would be used. For instance, a shallow, small sink for washing hands is probably sufficient for a toilet. On the other hand, if the bathroom space is limited, a deep and large basin offers a range of multifunctional benefits. A spacious vanity unit with a sink adds storage options to keep the countertop clutter-free.
