This residence is a rebuild located on a challenging coastal hillside slope. The client’s brief was for a Japanese influenced design with reduced maintenance, accommodating water features and sculpture.
A series of outdoor rooms and experiences have been created throughout the site to utilise as much of the steep terrain as possible. A textured plant palette in addition to strong geometric forms provides an interesting outlook at both ground level and when viewed from the upper levels of the house.
Earthwork Landscape Architects is a practice based in Christchurch, New Zealand with a strong commitment to its client’s needs and the landscape, a clear philosophy and a history of top quality project delivery. The practice grew out of a rural location where it expanded its expertise in site planning and public design to a broad range of professional engagement. These original strengths in logical, well planned design and a commitment to the natural environment have been retained in our work.
The company now employs seven people, works throughout the South Island of New Zealand and overseas, across commercial, public and private projects. The practice has identified its core skills and these form the backbone of the multidisciplinary work that is now typically carried out. These core skills are site planning, landscape identity, communication and project delivery.
