Inspired by the historic streets of Chongqing, BaShan celebrates the authentic flavours of Chinese Sichuan noodles.
The design of the noodle bar reinterprets traditional architectural motifs from the Chongqing area referencing the timber framework and the bold red tones of the decorative detailing. The feature water station capitalises on the visual strength of this traditional celebratory colour, while its exaggerated tap adds a sense of novelty and wonder to the dining experience.
To accentuate the street style of BaShan’s food offering, the design references the Chongqing streets with its slate cobble stone floor. This reference is continued in the forms and materiality of the lights which are a subtle contemporary interpretation of the traditional hanging street lanterns. The linear timber counter with its reeded glazing is reminiscent of the traditional noodle making process while the playfully elongated arm and back rest of the bench translates the curving geometry of the noodle.
