The Client wanted their existing backyard to be upgraded and to suit the needs of their growing family. The family are very active and so they wanted a large pool for the children to enjoy, along with a covered spa to be used in all weather. Also inside this pool area they wanted a poolside outdoor shower and a sun lounging area with umbrellas.

The other main requirement was that there was a large flat lawn for kids play. So we used a glass pool fence to visually connect the pool and lawn, creating one large outdoor space. This allows the pool area to be part of the larger backyard space and for the family to enjoy the different areas without being visually cut off. The connection of the existing outdoor deck and seating area needed to remain private despite being right next to the pool. It was purposefully screened off the pool area by a sculptural feature pool fence made of Corten steel vertical profiles.

Another must was for the area to be lit up at night so they could enjoy the outdoor areas together. We also needed to establish privacy for the pool while retaining the rural outlook. So, an instant hedge used for this project gave immediate effect of mature planting to the area and provided privacy and wind protection for the pool.

This project had different modern design elements and materials that were used to create a unique space. It was important for all the functions of the design to be integrated and so we used the glass fence and overall design to achieve this. The glass fence allows the pool area to be part of the larger backyard space and for the family to enjoy the different areas without being visually cut off. The corten steel feature fence compliments the colour of the timber deck, timber steps and timber outdoor shower, this brings a warmer element through the modern design.

The clients love the new corten steel feature fence, how it connects yet acts as a background, also they love the play of light and shadows due to its geometry. Overall, it was a very successful solution that added value to the whole property and made it bespoke and unique.
