This Scandinavian-style home celebrates timber and is built on stilts at Marlborough Ridge.

Carefully planned to enable views from all angles and to capture the sun, it is a wide ‘V’ shape and consists of three split levels.

Our clients wanted a home that felt natural, cosy and warm and gave us some feedback on their favourite features of the resulting design:

What are your favourite features of your home?

The three split levels; they’re enough that if you’re sitting in the lounge you can’t even see the kitchen and they’re on the same floor. Wherever you sit on the sofa you’ve got a panoramic view. Someone could be sitting down watching TV and someone else could be flitting around cooking and you wouldn’t even know anyone else was in the house. We like the angles, the light, and the privacy.

What is your home like to live in?

Very functional, easy to heat. We love it. It’s a lovely home. It’s warm, dry, cosy. So many Kiwi homes haven’t got that ‘hygge’, that cosy feel. This home was built with that in mind. Because I’m Norwegian I have to have that.

What was the most exciting part of your build?

When the floor went down and we actually stood on the floor and walked right out to where the deck was going to be and it was almost like we were on a treehouse; just elevated and open. That, and it coming together; that was exciting but the fact that we could stand on there, not on a scaffold but stand on there as if we were standing looking out over the view.
