Award-winning home on a former apple orchard, featuring stunning views of Waimea Inlet, seamless indoor-outdoor living, and a diverse planting palette that enhances the landscape while promoting native biodiversity.
Formerly an apple orchard, this property features a New Zealand Architecture award-winning home designed by Jon Craig. The sloping site facing northwest enjoys sweeping views of Waimea Inlet and displays work by contemporary sculptors from New Zealand.
Outdoor formal/informal patios and courtyards easily flow from living spaces within through a pergola and a series of wide horizontal grass terraces and stone steps, providing a transition to the wider landscape. A rill of water visually connects the inlet to the hillside amphitheatre.
The planting palette includes convenience shrubs around the house, orchard trees, an exotic trees arboretum, extensive native revegetation area, and wetland planting. Plants native to the area were used to help revive plant communities and are consistent with the patterns of drainage and the estuary edge of the site.
RMM realised the vision of their client and created a landscape that would stand the test of time. It will reward the owners with unique experiences in an evolving landscape as it continues to grow and change with the seasons.
