The Horokiwi project was a 1970’s townhouse with great bones, all day sun and stunning views. Newly purchased by a young couple who could see its potential through its dated decor, it was set for a full renovation.

The design focus was minimal and clean, with a Scandinavian influence. A small 80sq/m, every inch of space was to be utilised to its potential. From the office nook in the kitchen to a cleverly designed full family bathroom and an expansive deck that doubled their entertaining space, we think we nailed it.

Putting in fresh carpet and flooring, stripping the tired wallpaper and painting Alabaster throughout immediately refreshed the dwelling. Replacing tiled and textured ceilings and removing a wall between the kitchen and living room modernised the space. Custom storage was then put into the laundry, where even large drying racks could now be hidden away to maintain a sleek and streamlined look.

The goal for the (less than 4sq/m) bathroom was to include a freestanding bath and a walk-in wet floor shower. Hours of meticulous planning, designing, and hunting for the perfect products allowed this to come to fruition. Furthermore, an excellent relationship with quality suppliers meant we could source the products they loved within their budget, making way for the luxury of statement marble tiles and the essential underfloor heating.

The kitchen was an unusual shape, but we were able to design custom cabinetry that left no space unused and still allowed for their dream of a small breakfast bar to catch that view. An inbuilt microwave insured the sleek lines were maintained. The ply bench kept the room light while adding warmth and white rhombus tiles were a refreshing alternative to subway. We even snuck in a small office area, as the second bedroom come office was about to be taken over by their newest wee family member.

We loved being challenged by the scale of this project. It is a perfect illustration of how you can create small spaces with big impact and function.
