Face-fixed framed glass balustrades built for salt air and coastal wind, without giving up the ocean view.
The Kaireka Holiday Home at Opito Sands, built by HAMR Homes with Whiti Design, is a two-level retreat on the Coromandel coastline with cedar and Hardie Stria cladding, four bedrooms, and high-end interior finishes. The exposed site called for balustrades that could handle wind and salt air without compromising the view, so NZ Windows Whitianga, an authorised UNEX fabricator, specified the UNEX Siena Framed Glass Balustrade. Clear toughened glass and powder-coated aluminium framing gave the strength needed for marine conditions, and a face-fixed installation kept the footprint minimal. The build hit early setbacks from severe weather and a temporary road closure, but NZ Windows Whitianga managed the fabrication, PS1s, and site-specific adjustments to deliver a fully compliant, on-design result just weeks behind schedule.
