At Onehunga Primary School, a fresh, modern learning environment has taken shape - one that’s not just visually striking but also built for safety, durability, and long-term performance. As one of New Zealand’s tallest primary schools, its striking four-storey design combines modern aesthetics with functionality to support flexible learning environments.
UNEX contributed to this award-winning project by providing aluminium balustrade and screen solutions that prioritise safety, compliance, and style.

UNEX’s Contribution to This Project
For this ambitious educational development, UNEX supplied 185 linear metres of Hampton Balustrades in Dulux Duratec Sandstone Grey, engineered to C5 loading standards for durability in high-traffic environments. Installed across stairways and decks, these balustrades were supported by a site-specific PS1 design to meet NZ Building Code and Ministry of Education requirements.
We also provided Leada and UniRail handrails, powder-coated to match, ensuring safe and accessible circulation throughout the site.
Adding to the project’s architectural character, UNEX delivered a bespoke 3.8m-high aluminium stair screen, powder-coated in Dulux Duralloy Champagne Kinetic. Precision-engineered from 50x75x6mm aluminium and fixed to steel for strength, the screen combines safety, durability, and a refined finish suitable for a modern educational environment.
