A resilient hunting lodge in Tai Tapu, featuring locally sourced materials and traditional craftsmanship, blending modern efficiency with the rich history of New Zealand's back country.
Welcome to the Hunting Guides House, a project that embodies the true spirit of the New Zealand back country. The owner's dream of a hunting style lodge rose from the ashes of tragedy, as this was the rebuild after their first home sadly burned down. Nestled in the midst of one of the loveliest gardens in Tai Tapu, this home stands as a testament to resilience and vision.
The wooden floor, macrocarpa post and beam timber frame crafted with mortise and tenon techniques, and the use of locally sourced wilding pines from Arthurs Pass for timber milling, all come together to create a truly special space. SIPS panels and traditional corrugated iron complete the exterior, blending modern efficiency with a nod to traditional craftsmanship. A trophy build that pays homage to the rich history of the NZ back country.
