By Bridget Foley Design
After years living with a tiny dark kitchen and bathroom, larger, lighter spaces were needed. 60 square meters were added to this villa in one of Wellingtons inner city suburbs. Getting the bones right was forefront in Bridget Foley Designs plan for this family friendly kitchen, living, dining opening out onto a large sunny garden. No detail was left without a lot of thought and planning. Huge windows and doors were meticulously replicated from the original villa joinery and now flood the large room with light. As the large room was now the dining area, tall upper cupboards are left without handles to look like a panelled room from the dining table. The lower joinery have subtle recessed handles as Bridget did not want the busy look of lots of handles. The huge floor to ceiling bookcase is a favourite and houses hundreds of design, art, travel and cookbooks. The small family bathroom was extended, beautiful marble mosaic floors laid, the shower over the bath was replaced with a sculptural free standing bath and glass surround shower. A custom marble topped vanity provides much needed storage and the dark walls add interest.
