Laneway House

Laneway House was a workers’ cottage situated on a prominent street in Naremburn. It was run-down and needed remedial works to be habitable, as well as additional space to accommodate the clients’ plans to start a family.

The re-design opened up the back of the house for modern family living, while retaining the traditional aesthetic at the front of the house. A first-floor parents’ retreat was added, along with another bedroom to maximise the property’s potential.

The client’s sense of refined elegance guided the interiors, creating soft, light spaces with a contemporary edge. The palette of white, grey-blues, marbles and warm timbers is accented by polished chrome fittings. The traditional detailing at the front of the house is balanced by clean, contemporary lines towards the back, which is complemented by a modern exterior colour scheme. Floor to ceiling tiling in the bathrooms creates a sense of luxury, polished concrete floors provide durability and warmth underfoot, and the intelligent joinery conceals a breakfast bar and pantry within the kitchen.
