Carried out by: The Double Glazing Company (installation team selected from licensee business teams across North Island).

The owners of this 80's beach property were completing a significant renovation, including changes to window and door joinery, requiring:

  • double glazing to provide improved thermal insulation, reduced solar heat gain, and improved noise insulation (due to high winds).
  • change in colour of joinery.
  • change in function of a number of doors, moving from french doors to sliding doors with the intention to improve the use of the deck space and better manage the doors in coastal weather (winds).

On inspection of the 1980s joinery, evidence of damage to the frames was found due to moisture ingress over time. It was regarded that there could likely be further damage to the sub-structure and that repairs may be required.

While the owners initially considered retrofitting double glazing into the existing aluminium joinery, together with re-colouring the existing aluminium frames, it became apparent that replacement joinery would provide a more effective outcome.

New thermal joinery was supplied and installed, with SuperTherm Cool™ double glazing selected to provide reduced solar heat gain and glare while maintaining natural daylighting. Opening windows were positioned to improve cross-ventilation in the home.

The installation project was completed over a week and included repairs to the substructure to treat for rot damage. The overall result was a significant change in the aesthetic of the home, together with a transformation of home comfort.
