A complete renovation of the 4th floor of the 1926 office block, involved a complete overhaul of the interior. Narrow corridors, tacky lino flooring and poor use of the natural light available was all tossed aside to make room for an open, light office space.

A portion of the exterior brick wall was removed and a covered deck put in its place. Exposed brick and copper pipes give character to the space and polished concrete floors maintain the stylish, yet minimalist appearance. In doing so the team created a comfortable and modern work space much more in keeping with it’s art deco heritage.

A full renovation of a floor in this 1926 building first involved removal of the lowered ceilings, narrow corridors, shiny lino floors, plywood doors and poor lighting from the 80s.
Removal of the wooden box frames from the 1920s ceiling beams revealed a unique wood-grain like texture in the concrete that was emulated in additional areas of concrete through use of the same type of wooden framing.
Storm water pipes were recessed within the walls, coming out as a copper pipe feature when they are eventually revealed. Exposed copper pipes have been used in lieu of plastic conduit to conceal data and power cables.
A large part of one of the external brick walls was taken down to create a sunny external deck area with brick balustrade and a bank of large sliding doors.
Oversized doors are used throughout to fit with the scale of the ceiling height and columns.
Open plan office spaces and polished concrete floors throughout give a sense of continuity to the office and a look much more in keeping with its art deco heritage.
