This garden pays homage to a bygone era, a collection of outdoor spaces demarcated by a grand and comprehensive plant palette.

The property —a Federation-style home in Sydney’s Mosman— sits respectfully within this verdant landscape, its sweeping driveways and hidden paths providing sanctuary from the outside world.

Passed down through generations of landscape designers (the most recent being Peter Fudge), this 100-year-old garden was originally designed as a series of outdoor rooms. While it had retained adequate structure, the landscape needed consolidating to improve functionality and suit the modern day.

Taking cues from the architecture and era of the build our team proposed a lush botanical garden filled with textural low- and mid-level plantings while an overhaul of the garden’s underplanting provided opportunity for the client to make their mark on the heritage-listed home. A key focus, however, was to give each room of the 1,412 sq m landscape a sense of purpose, be that by creating a better-defined entrance, a more enclosed pool area or a modernised entertaining zone.

About the
Professional

Wyer & Co. is an integrated landscape design practice, founded by Anthony Wyer in 2005.

Based in Sydney, our team of architects, designers, horticulturalists and construction specialists collaborate with our clients to create, construct, and maintain, exceptional landscapes, for exceptional homes.

Multi-layered, beautiful, and sometimes surprising, the spaces we design draw upon our deep knowledge of horticulture and ecologies; our understanding of the Sydney lifestyle and climate, and the unique aspirations and personalities of their residents.

Everything we do is founded in the belief that landscapes are a powerful medium to connect people to place, to tell stories through time, and elevate the way we live outside.
