Pines House banner

Located on land previously used as a pine plantation fronting Matarangi’s white sand surf beach, a group of zinc-clad buildings are arranged as an informal family bach surrounded by the remaining pine trees.

The house contains a main living space, a sleep–out, and a boatshed with a two-bedroomed guest cottage above. The main house opens up and out onto a long deck that runs along the front of the house capturing the views of the reserve. Corrugated zinc cladding is carried through into the interior, where the consistant use of material unities the two separate structures. The bach is positioned with the beach in front, and the sylvan courtyard sloping behind.
