Redcliffs Medical Centre The Redcliffs Medical Centre and Pharmacy is a new community-focused facility that serves the immediate and wider local community. The brief was for a new purpose-built medical centre, as the existing medical centre (on a different site) was cramped and not fit-for-purpose and had added uncertainty of future leasing and betterment options with the landlord.

The detailed spatial brief was to house all the requirements of the medical centre (consulting and treatment rooms, surgery, amenities and offices), in addition to a welcoming and comfortable entry and waiting area and, if possible, space for the separately locally owned Redcliffs Pharmacy to be co-located within the building. 

A large part of the aspirational brief from the clients was to create a positive workingenvironment for staff, with wellbeing being paramount and dedicated break out staff space andamenities tothe ‘workings’ of the centre. 

The design response was site responsive, retaining and upgrading a portion of the existing building on the site, and then the collage of building forms to each suit their required functions; the pharmacy is housed in the street-facing existing building, the core medical centre functions a black brick form stretching along the south boundary, the staff and non-public facilities inthe white metal box hovering above the central entry, circulation and waiting areas.
