The confined kitchen in this contemporary home was a major stumbling block to the owners’ enjoyment of their new home, so they engaged the designer to look at solutions to open the space up to the greater living area.

An important element to enhance was the kitchen's outlook, so a mirrored splashback was used to allow the landscaping to be seen from all angles of the space, whether reflected while seated, or viewed the environment from behind the kitchen island.

Adding ‘traditional’ turned legs to support the extended breakfast introduced a fun element to the design – painting them bright yellow challenged their conventional form. The yellow accents were then carried through to the pendant lighting and other areas of the space.

The pattern of the pressed tin in the bulkhead added to the eclectic nature of this modernist kitchen, transforming the room into a personal space for the family to live, cook and socialise.
