An elongated, shallow form is inspired by the relentless local ridgeline topography, and by the client’s dynamic career in complex industrial engineering and steel fabrication. A south wall self-weathering steel ‘spine’ references this career further, and the red rock geology of the coastal area and serves as the baseline for the balance of the homes arrangement.
Judges' Comments (2016 ADNZ | Resene Architectural Regional Design Awards. Bay of Plenty/Waikato. Regional People's Choice Award)
The judges commented that an uncomplicated building shelters behind a blade of corten steel. This design is a bold gesture in the landscape.
