St Marys Bay House

From the outset the planning strategy was a tried and tested one, we removed the existing lean-to and replaced it with a contemporary addition. While its not the first time a box has been placed onto the back of a villa we believe the materials used, the way they have been detailed and a strong connection to the outside gives this addition its own personality.   With nearly all the new works at the rear the existing villa maintains its historic connection with the street while the new living space and outdoor area serve the new owner’s needs.   The old villa contrasts strongly and nicely with the new addition, walking through the old hallway visitors are  rewarded with the character and history of the old, while also catching glimpses of the new.   On arrival at the end of the hallway visitors step down onto a new concrete floor and immediately enter a large volume containing the living, dining and kitchen. Large full height glass sliders instantly connect this space to the outside area, blurring inside and outside when the doors are open and allowing the owners  keep an eye on the swimming pool from any angle.
