This couple had been living happily in their existing home in Takapuna for many years. The current house was built on a generous sized section, but the homeowners were not utilising their backyard because it was on a steep downwards slope.

They wanted to improve the space and find a better purpose for the land. They realised the financial opportunities that subdividing their section could bring them and decided the best use of space was to build a brand new home and income rental property.

This was an exciting challenge for Craft Construction because the section was not flat. It was a very steep slope that required our team to excavate and flatten the site completely to ensure we had a stable building platform to work on.

The new home was designed to be simple yet maximise space, with its sole purpose being a rental, ideally by two persons max. The house spanned across one level, with 2 medium size bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The living room flowed out onto the entertaining area, which ensured the home felt spacious and could be enjoyed by long term renters.

Our team enjoyed building this minor dwelling on the North Shore and the homeowners were so pleased that their backyard, was finally turned into something of real value to them.
