Craft came across successful Property Developer & Reputable IT Entrepreneur - Niel, following his search for an Auckland home to renovate and rent.
He found a 1900s Villa in Kingsland which looked its ages but appeared to have strong bones, was perfect for renovating. This home as an attractive rental for all prospective tennantis in the heart of kingsland, close to public transport, down a quiet road but a 5minute walk to the local Kingslander.
Originally, Craft were engaged to convert the basement and refresh the home superficially. This turned into a major renovation involving an additional minor dwelling being constructed.
Villas in Auckland, are renouned for their high ceilings, detailed fret work, coloured glass panes and minimal lighting. As this was a heritage building, so we had to stay within the strict guidelines to highlight, preserve and retain they traditions of this home. Although we hit some snags along the way, the technical challenges were exciting to work through, especially with the lighting.
There was minimal windows and natural light able to get in, after many hours of planning factoring budgets, we were able to enhance the traditional features by propped the entire interior, raising, re-level the heights at 3.7m2 and installing structural beams. We installed 3 skylights, sustainable lighting and deliberatley placed to compliment the natural lighting.
